Is Salesforce.com becoming a swiss army knife for the Cloud?

It might be possible to suggest that Salesforce.com is becoming a swiss army knife for the cloud. With recent acquisitions, products, and partnerships like Heroku, Radian6, Database.com, and VMWare. They appear to have a strategy of taking the best out of the open source culture, the concept of the App Marketplace, and put all of this on a solid secure enterprise cloud platform.

This significantly reduces barriers to entry for smaller players that want access to the corporate software marketplace. Maybe the medium to larger software companies need to take more note of this tipping point? We have already seen IBM move into this market with the acquisition of CastIron.
