Important Update for Salesforce Users: Action Required for Microsoft Exchange Online Integration

On October 1st, Salesforce announced that customers using Microsoft Exchange Online must take specific actions regarding their Salesforce organizations to maintain seamless access to M365 integrations. If your company relies on on-premises environments, there’s no need for concern.

As Microsoft moves forward with its Secure Future Initiative, it will be deprecating certain legacy features that will affect the Salesforce Outlook Integration in the months ahead. To help you navigate these changes, Salesforce has provided a comprehensive Knowledge Base article detailing the necessary steps. Additionally, you can review Microsoft’s documentation for more insights on timelines and required actions.

Key Milestones to Keep in Mind

  1. Exchange Online Token Deactivation: Microsoft will disable Exchange Online tokens for all tenants. After this date, admins will have the ability to re-enable Exchange tokens either for the entire tenant or specific add-ins.
  2. Final Token Re-Enablement Date: Following this milestone, Microsoft will remove the option to re-enable Exchange tokens. If admins haven’t completed the necessary actions outlined in the Knowledge Base article by this time, users may lose access to the integration.

Proactive Testing Recommended

As a best practice Redpath strongly recommends that you proactively test your systems ahead of these deadlines. Here are some actions you can take to prepare:

  • Authorize the Salesforce Outlook Integration: Use the Admin Consent Flow to authorize integration for users within your tenant (more details available from Microsoft).
  • Disable Exchange Online Tokens Manually: Microsoft will introduce this capability in October 2024. Stay updated by checking their FAQ page for the latest information.
  • Verify Integration Functionality: Launch the Outlook integration and confirm that Microsoft authorization and Salesforce authentication processes are functioning correctly. Ensure that users can access the application without issues.
For more details on the rollout of these changes, please reach out to your M365 administrator. It’s crucial to stay ahead of these developments to ensure a smooth transition for your Salesforce integrations.
